Transition form instructions

dee's straight curb and gutter forming system consists of a back form, face form, a division plate, and a top spreader. Back and front forms are standard straight flatwork forms with the back form taller than the front form.

There are five basic industry-standard curb and gutter profiles for either straight or radius configurations. They are:

  1. Vertical face - straight or radius - with the front and the back of the curb being at 90° angles.
  2. Battered face - straight or radius - with the back of the curb at a 90° angle and the front at less than a 90° degree angle.
  3. Bottom radius - straight or radius - a curb face with a radius formed into the bottom of the curb.
  4. Top and bottom radius - straight or radius - a curb face with a radius formed into the top and bottom of the curb.
  5. Drive over - straight or radius - a curb face with a slow, gradual batter allowing traffic to pass over.

These are the five most common curb and gutter profiles used by concrete contractors. dee will fabricate curb and gutter front forms, back forms, division plates, and curb face forms to meet any curb and gutter specification.

The components required to form each type of profile are listed in the tables below.

The tables that follow on this page list the dee components required to form 100 linear feet of dee straight curb and gutter setups or 100 outside perimeter feet for dee radius curb and gutter setups for each of the five most common profiles. The most typical curb and gutter specifications require a 12" curb back and a 6" gutter.   This standard configuration is used to calculate the information shown in the tables that follow.

Users must verify the curb and gutter configuration's:

  • curb back height
  • front gutter height
  • profile required

before placing any orders for dee straight or radius curb and gutter forms and check with their dee distributor before placing orders to insure the proper components are ordered.   Each profile has its own specific component requirements.

dee manufactures transition forms for curb and gutter form systems. dee's transition forms are engineered to provide a fast transition from radius curb and gutter forms to straight forms or straight to radius forms curb and gutter forms by attaching either a male or female transition form decreasing form set up time and increasing labor efficiency.

Radius forms are connected to transition forms using a lock clamp, (#625). The transition forms have either a male or female nose at one end and an angle connector at the other end allowing them to attach quickly and sturdily to straight or radius curb and gutter forms.

Straight curb & gutter to radius curb & gutter

Concrete contractors should take the following steps to transition from a straight curb and gutter forming setup to a to radius curb and gutter form setup:

  1. Slip either a male (#559 or #562) or female transition form (#560 or #563) onto the protruding form nose end of the back curb form, front curb form, and curbface form or insert the transition form nose into the form pocket of the back form (#205), front form (#205), and curbface form (#240).

  2. Align the radius form's (#507) angle bracket ends with the angle bracket attached to either the male or female transition forms and insert the pin portion of the lock clamp (#625) into the top hole of either angle bracket and then lightly force down the pin to lock the radius forms to the transition forms.

Both the male (#559 or #562) and female (#560 or #563) transition forms (#559/#560, #562/#563) are manufactured with an angle bar welded onto the end of the transition form, which marries to the end angles riveted onto dee's radius forms (#507).

This completes the transition from a straight curb and gutter form system to a radius form system.

Radius curb & gutter to straight curb & gutter

Concrete contractors should take the following steps to transition from a radius curb and gutter form setup to a straight curb and gutter form setup:

  1. Attach either a male (#559 or #562) or female transition form (#560 or #563) to the existing radius back form, front form, and curbface form by aligning the angle brackets at the end of the radius form with the angle brackets on the end of the transition forms.

  2. Insert the pin portion of the lock clamp (#625) into the top hole of the aligned angle brackets and then lightly force down the pin to lock the radius forms (#507) to the transition forms.

  3. Then, insert the protruding form noses on the end of the transition forms into form pockets on the end of the back form (#205), front form (#205), and curbface form (#240), or insert the noses on the to be transitioned straight forms into the form pockets on the transition forms.

This completes the transition from a radius curb and gutter form setup to a straight curb and gutter form setup.
